Meet Sridhar, he’s investing money for success. He’’s worked his way through the ranks of various software engineering roles in India and the US. He now holds a CTO role with a fintech startup called Cube Wealth. Yeo, he’s one of us and it’s another tale worth telling.
His financial goals are to live comfortably while providing for his family. For Sridhar, living comfortably means being stress free and not spend inordinate amounts of time picking and tracking investment opportunities.
“I want to consolidate my finances so that I’m on top of it and not stress about it all the time. Want to use the best investment advice possible that match my needs. I want to leave investments decisions to the experts.”
Investing history pre Cube Wealth
Through talking to his peers and family, Sridhar learnt about systematic investing money in Mutual Funds approx. 10 years ago. Prior to this, he saved, put his money in fixed deposits (FDs), Real estate, Public Provident Fund (PPF) and ad-hoc Equity investments.
Sridhar’s selection process for investing in mutual funds was based on his bank RM’s recommendations and his own limited research. To research, Sridhar would google to find the top performing funds and pick based on how credible he thought the sources were. No consideration of qualitative factors or quantitative parameters which are indicators of a funds risk and profitability. m
The cold hard facts
Though Sridhar’s self-researched mutual fund portfolio is running at profit of about 15%, he can do much better with his hard earned money to achieve his financial goals faster. Doing ok but we think he can do better investing money for success.
Sridhar's Cube to invest money for success
Why this selection of investments for Sridhar to invest money for success?
The liquid funds are safe like a bank account and earn 7%. This means Sridhar can have fast access to funds safely and still beat the rate of inflation here in India.
Sridhar has also been able to diversify into investments outside of the stock market to maximise his short term portfolio. He gets 2 x minimum on his bank account fixed deposit while earning 13% with Receivables Financing instead of 8% fixed deposit with inflexible terms.
High performing investments for long term wealth are comprised of Mutual Funds – Equity and Equity Advisory. Sridhar now has 20-44% performance instead of 15%. By using expert advisory services, Sridhar no longer has to research himself. His buy and sell instructions are clear with advisors that have the top performance over the last decade plus. He’s also diversified across different investment philosophies that are all underpinned by one common thread – long term wealth creation.
“This is so easy and simple with the portfolio tracking in Cube Wealth. I’m still in charge and have accountability of my own money. I use the advisors and new investments, can always see where my investments are at and it’s very easy to invest more or redeem funds via Cube Wealth.”
Why did Sridhar join Cube Wealth?
“I knew my investments could do better but I didn’t trust my RM after hearing so many friends lose money with bad investments. I preferred to be accountable myself and learnt about Mutual Funds from my seniors at work. I just didn’t have the time or expertise to get the returns I really wanted. I also found there was only ever buy advice available. I never knew if I should hold or sell. Selling is a key component of investing money.
With Cube Wealth I liked having access to advisors that had more experience and credibility than my RM. I just couldn’t access these advisors without Cube because I’m not a HNI with crores to invest up front. I wanted to invest in Equities for a long time but I wasn’t sure how to go about a high risk investment myself. The investments I have now are setting me up for the long term so I won’t have to worry about money. I know what is being bought, why it’s being bought and if I need to sell anything.
I also liked the newer investment options. It made sense there are new ways to invest as people are doing more digital transactions and are also consuming differently as salaries across India increase. I hadn’t heard of these before Cube Wealth. The concept of a short term portfolio was new to me but I’m very happy with the returns I’m getting. It’s more flexible than the FD’s I used to have and cases double the interest I was earning.”
